Abstract :
In this research, a hazelnut drying machine is designed with infrared heating and air dryer. With thisaim, two different prototips were manufactured and then drying experiments were conducted in 2010and 2014 years. The first prototype drying system was fed by a fan and air humidity was decreasedbefore process with an air dryer. However, in the second prototype air was supplied from a compressedair system including air dryer. Drying machine chamber is insulated for air and heat leakage, and heatedby infrared carbon film heaters from its outer walls. The machine, drives dehumidified air orcompressed air into hazelnut bulk placed in chamber, and humidified air is discharged out through airchannels. First prototype was tested in Ankara workshop in 2010, while the second was tested inGiresun in 2014. First prototype was designed with a capacity of 600 kg. Second prototype wasdesigned as 200 kg hazelnut capacity and tested 4 times in 2014. Field tests proved that the designedmachine can dry hazelnut in 8-14 hours and energy cost is within reasonable range (60-150 TL per ton).
