Abstract :
Introduction : Kinesthetic imagery (KI) has been used in a variety of pathological instances in support to classical therapeutic treatments. Objectives : The aim of the present study was to observe the effect of either kinesthetic imagery or visual observation (VO) of a specific movement (tilt forward of the upper body) to improve the lumbosacral sense of spine repositioning in patients suffering of low back pain. Methods : Sixty subjects with a history of the affection were included in two experimental groups (KI and VO) and one reference group (Ref). Results : The results showed the effectiveness of KI and partly VO to improve the accuracy of straightening up the lumbosacral spine. The results may be explained in terms of proprioceptive input and sense of positioning. Conclusion : The possibility to use effectively motor imagery, as part of the rehabilitation process, is the main outcome of this study.
