THE ADSORPTION OF ACID BLUE 324 ON EUROPEAN SEABASS FISH SCALES
Abstract :
In this study, the adsorption of Acid blue 324 (AB 324) on European seabass fish scales (LBP) was investigated in a batch system; the optimum environmental conditions were found as initial pH 2.0, temperature 25 ˚C, initial AB 324 concentration 200 mg/L and adsorbent concentration 1.0 g/L. The isoelectric point for the studied fish scale was determined as 7.25; the high removal amounts were obtained at lower pH values than the isoelectric pH value. It was observed that the adsorption equilibrium fitted well to the Langmuir isotherm model and the experimental kinetic data were successfully described with the pseudo second order kinetic model. It was concluded that the external diffusion as well as intraparticle diffusion were effective in the actual adsorption process. Thermodynamic studies showed that the adsorption of AB 324 on LBP is exothermic and spontaneous in nature. The characterization of adsorbent before and after adsorption was carried out with FTIR, SEM and EDX analysis methods.
