Abstract :
In this study, surface pressure distributions on the two low-rise building models having different dimensions with 15º pitched gable roofs have been investigated experimentally in order to search the blockage effect on the building wind loads. The experiments were carried out in an atmospheric boundary layer that is modeled in the wind tunnel. Atmospheric boundary layer was simulated with combination of barrier, elliptic vortex generators and elements of roughness and a 150 mm height boundary layer was formed at 15 m/s wind velocity. The mean and fluctuating surface pressures were measured on the roofs in detail for various wind directions to observe critical suction zones on the roof surfaces. It is seen that blockage effect seriously affects surface pressures on the critical zones. Blockage ratio of 8.5% caused the suction effects to increase in magnitude by ~50% when compared the blockage ratio of 3.7%.
