A PHILOSOPHICAL OUTLOOK ON AŞIK VEYSEL’S POEM “GÜZELLİĞİN ON PARA ETMEZ”
Abstract :
Aşık Veysel is a bard who has internalized Anatolian wisdom. It is almost impossible to find another poet who can tell many things in few words in Turkish Folk Literature. Veysel, in his poem, develops an excellent aesthetic theory and philosophy of art without making any conscious reference to any concepts of philosophy and aesthetics, a discipline of philosophy. It is possible to infer from the poem in question that Veysel is a subjectivist in his aesthetic judgment and, at the same time, accepts values as indescribable and that the opposites in the universe emerge as an ontological necessity. We can also observe in the poem that he has not gone too far in his subjectivism and, towards the end of the poem, this subjective approach is replaced by reconciliation between subjective and objective judgment. It is possible to come to a conclusion that the ultimate aim of love is to reach the beloved. This is the aim of human existence and man can gain existence to the extent he achieves this aim. Love is considered by Veysel as the primary reason for existence. It is also seen as a vital principle for the continuity of existence for every being. Ontological basis for the conflict in universe originates from the difference among ideas on existence, knowledge and values. In the world of conflict, the role of human being is to find “beauty” and live accordingly, without involving in “ugly” and its ethical equivalent “evil”. “İnsan-ı Kâmil” according to Veysel is the one that achieves spiritual maturity by following this practice throughout his life.
