Abstract
Hexagonal shaped cobalt based nanoplates in polyacrylonitrile nanofibers were facilely prepared. For this purpose, cobalt chloride containing polyacrylonitrile nanofibers were produced via electrospinning technique. As spun nanofibers were than soaked and treated in H2S at an ambient condition. Chemical interaction between cobalt chloride and H2S in polyacrylonitrile nanofibers leads to formation of hexagonal nanoplates in the nanofibers. As-spun and threaded nanofibers were characterized with a scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Beside the preparation of this functional fancy nanostructure, the study can be considered as a process for detection and removal of H2S which is highly toxic chemical and commonly used in the industry.
