Abstract :
Type 1 diabetes mellitus is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by immune-mediated destruction of the beta-cells in the pancreas which results from the action of environmental factors on genetically predisposed individuals. The incidence of type 1 diabetes has been increasing worldwide. Its etiology is complex and remains unknown. In this review, possible genetic factors associated with the susceptibility of type 1 diabetes are discussed.
