Does Peri-Follicular Blood Flow on the day of Ovum Pick-up Predict the Likelihood of Retrieving an Oocyte?
Abstract :
Objective: To determine whether peri-follicular blood flow predicts pick up of an oocyte at egg retrieval. Patients and Methods: A prospective cohort study was made on fortyseven women undergoing in vitro fertilization treatments in a university hospital. Peri-follicular blood flow was analyzed on the day of egg retrieval. Two groups were formed regarding the presence or absence of oocyte during retrieval. Oocyte grades in different peri-follicular blood flow groups were compared. Results: There was no significant difference between the groups regarding the perivascular blood flow per follicle. The oocyte grade did not differ between follicles with different peri-follicular vascularity. Conclusions: It appears that high peri-follicular vascularity on the day of egg retrieval does not predict the likelihood of obtaining an oocyte. High peri-follicular vascularity does not confirm good egg quality even if an egg could be collected.(Marmara Medical Journal 2012;25:118-22)
