The Questions in the 9th Class Geography Textbook and The Analysis of Several Geography Questions According to The Bloom Taxonomy
Abstract :
By force of the systems applied in several countries, particularly in Turkey, the success of the students is being evaluated by taking their performances in several exams as a basis. That’s why the questions in various exams should be prepared in accordance with certain criteria and also intended to develop the advanced conception competences of students. The purpose of this study is to classify the evaluation questions at the end of chapters in the 9th class geography textbooks, the exam questions of geography teachers which are in charge for the 9th class in different centers of our country and the questions of the ÖSS exam 2008-2009 concerning geography according to the levels of the Bloom taxonomy and to perform a comparative analysis. By virtue of the examination of documents, 222 textbook questions, 233 teacher exam questions and 11 ÖSS questions have been determined. From the evaluation performed in line with the Bloom taxonomy procedure resulted that especially the teachers’ exam questions and the textbook questions were generally composed of questions at the knowledge level while ÖSS questions in the contrary were focused on the cognition category. It has been determined that questions at the analysis, synthesis and evaluation levels which are intended to improve the students’ advanced conception competences were partially found in the ÖSS exams and that they were distributed in balance but however these were almost never encountered in teachers’ exam questions and textbooks.
