Measuring the Knowledge Level of High School Students on Environmental İssues: The case of Çankırı Province
Abstract :
In the historical period, the wish of the human beings to benefit from the environment and improve the quality of life have augmented and diversified continuously by the help of technological developments. In the historical process, the technological developments which have fostered the human being the ability to interfere the environment have reached up the exploitation of the natural resources to the critical level for environment and its components and culminated with irrevocable degradation and pollution.In particular, the developments initiating with the industrial revolution which undermined the environment altered the environmental balance and resulted in irreparable losses. The alterations in ecological balance threatening the human life led the international opinion to seek global solutions to this problem. Consequently, different countries have renewed their teaching programs to enhance the environmental consciousness of the students and environmental education has an important emphasis in the environmental policies.This study aspires to find the knowledge level of the students enrolled in different types of schools regarding environmental issues in the case of Çankırı province of Turkey and investigates the relationships with the demographic features (gender and area of study) and knowledge level of the students.
