Abstract :
The present study addresses the effect of intellectual structures which become active in the process of teaching Turkish as native language and the intellectual processes on the phases which compose the learning-teaching process. The content of the study consists of two main parts. The first part addresses the information processing model improved by Atkinson and Shiffirin. The cognitive structures and intellectual processes which compose the information processing model are examined in detail. The learning of Turkish and the teaching process are evaluated in the second part within the framework of intellectual structures and cognitive processes. In this context, preparatory studies concerning the learning and teaching process, the comprehension and self-expression phases are examined within the framework of the intellectual structures and cognitive processes addressed in the first part and which comprises the information processing model. After this evaluation, it was concluded that, in particular, preparatory studies were significant in terms of information processing. It was determined that all the studies conducted in the intellectual preparation process concerning the activation of preliminary information, working with key words, knowing and predicting the text and setting the purpose were concerned with the short-term memory and cognitive processes.
