A Study about Pre-service English Teachers’Performance on Generating Written Comparison- Contrast Text by Utilizing the Information in The Source Texts Written in Their Native Language and English
Abstract :
The study aims to describe the performance of coherent comparison-contrast text generation of the preservice teachers by using the information in the source texts. In this study, the comparison and contrast texts that are produced based on the English and Turkish source texts by the preservice teachers of English are analyzed according to the rubric developed by the researcher based on the Spivey’s comparison-contrast text analysis method. The quantitative and qualitative results obtained in the study show that students have difficulty in selecting the most salient information from source texts and also integrating this information into their own writing. Consequently, they can not produce coherent comparison-contrast texts.
