Abstract :
The purpose of the present study is to examine the extent to which alienation of students enrolled at Faculty of Education at Mersin University to their faculty regarding powerlessness, meaninglessness, normlessness, and social isolation predicted their attitudes towards teaching profession. In this study, Faculty of Education at Mersin University has been specified as a case and the sample of this study consisted of 531 third and fourth-grade students enrolled at the faculty during 2011-2012 spring semester. ‘Student Alienation Scale’ and ‘Attitude Scale towards Teaching Profession’ were used to collect the data from the sample. The collected data were analyzed through stepwise regression analysis statistical method. The alpha value of .05 was established as a level of significance. Results of the analyses revealed that alienation of students to their faculty regarding meaninglessness and normlessness were significant predictors of students’ attitudes towards teaching profession.
