Abstract :
The aim of this study was to determine the views of classroom teachers about the adequacy of the objectives, personal qualities and values, and life skills covered in life studies curriculum in terms of development of ethical awareness. The study was designed as a descriptive survey. The study sample consisted of 437 classroom teachers teaching grades 1, 2, and 3 in 2009-2010 school year in central Malatya, Turkey. The data were collected by means of a questionnaire developed by the researchers. In the first part of the questionnaire, there were three questions about the personal characteristics of classroom teachers and there were 23 items about ethics in the second part. In accordance with the objectives of the study, the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics techniques, frequency and percentage, and a non-parametric statistical technique, chi-square independence test. The significance level determined in interpretation of the data was .05. The results showed that the majority of the classroom teachers thought the objectives, personal qualities and values, and life skills covered in life studies curriculum were adequate in terms of development of ethical awareness.
