Abstract :
The aim of this study is to analyze how much the social studies course self efficacies of the 6th and 7th grade students predict their levels of positive attitudes towards social studies course according to the level of the class and gender variables. Furthermore, to identify whether the self efficacy level and positive attitudes towards social studies course differ according to the class or gender is another aim of the study. The study has been carried out among 439 middle school students within a district of Antalya, Alanya. The data of the study was collected through the scales; “Social Studies Self Efficacy” and “Social Studies Attitude”. Two way analysis of variance and regression analysis have been applied in the analysis of the data. As a result of the analysis of the data, it has been found out that the self efficacy and the positive attitude points of the students decrease as the class level increases, but the difference is not significant. It has been discovered that the students’ self efficacies and the positive attitudes towards the course do not show a significant difference according to gender. It has been determined that the social studies self efficacy points are a strong predictor of positive attitudes.
