Teacher Candidates’ Communication Skills: The Role of Temperament and Character
Abstract :
The purpose of the present study was to evaluate whether the temperament and character traits of pre-service teachers can serve to predict their communication skills. The study group consisted of 325 pre-service teachers between the ages of 18-32 years, who were receiving their education at the Mersin University Faculty of Education. Data collection during the study was performed by using the Communication Skills Assessment Scale and the Temperament and Character Inventory. According to the analysis results,the most significant communication skill predictors inregards to their contribution to the total variance were the “cooperation” and “self-management character traits, and the “persistence and “reward dependence” temperament traits.The study results indicated that temperament and character traits both play an important role in the communication skills of pre-service teachers.
