Title Of Article :
Investigation of the Psychometric Properties of the Turkish Version of Student Trust in Teacher Scale
Abstract :
The main purpose of the current research is to adopt the Trust in Teacher Scale into Turkish, a measure designed to assess students’ trust in their teachers. It was also aimed to investigate the psychometric properties of the Turkish form of the scale. Data for the validity and reliability studies was gathered from three distinct research groups. Both exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were conducted and also corrected item-total correlation coefficients, cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficients and test-retest correlation coefficients were also estimated through validity and reliability studies. After reliability and validity studies, it was revealed that adopted version of the scale has one single structure for both secondary and high school samples with high factor loadings as in the original scale. Results from the data gathered from secondary school students showed that; items in the scale explains 43.50% of the total variance, factor loadings of the items vary between “.515” and “.746” , and internal consistency coefficient was found as“.879”. Results from the data gathered from high school students showed that; items in the scale explains 47.82% of the total variance, factor loadings of the items vary between “.567” and “.768” , and internal consistency coefficient was found as“.899”. Furthermore, confirmatory factor analysis results for secondary and high school samples indicated that one factor model fits the data reasonably well. Considering the research results, it was concluded that the Turkish version of trust in teacher scale could be used as a reliable and valid tool in assessing students’ levels of trust in their teachers.
