The Relation between the Social Capital Level and Disadvantageousness Variables of Public Schools
Abstract :
This study aims at identifying the relation between the social capital level and the variables defining disadvantageousness of primary schools. Data collection tool has been designed by the researcher in order to collect data and an interview form has been prepared. The questionnaire has been applied to 368 teachers working in 27 primary schools and 2 special training schools in the Mezitli district of Mersin province. The interview form about the disadvantageousness variable was applied to 29 school principles. Data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and t-test. The results of the study show that there is a significant difference between the social capital levels of schools in terms of the population of the school district, the residence place of the students’ parents, being native or not, the income level of families and the disability of students. On the other hand, there is no significant difference between the social capital level of schools with respect to the immigration of the families and single parent family variables.
