Abstract :
This research aims to determine whether the total scores on the teacher supervision forms, used by the supervisors for the inspection of preschool teachers, vary according to gender, length of service in preschool teaching and the location of the schools. This study is a descriptive one since it examines the current situation in preschool teacher supervision. The population of the study consists of 376 preschool teachers teaching in Adana, Ağrı, Erzurum, Diyarbakır, Giresun, İzmir, Mardin and Şanlıurfa provinces of Turkey. We used the “Teacher Supervision Form” as the data collection tool. The analyses are based on the scores that teachers took from the “Teacher Supervision Form” and personal information from the same form. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and the results of the normality test. The Mann Whitney U test and the Kruskal Wallis Test were also used for the data analysis. It was found that teachers’ scores on “Teacher Supervision Form” do not vary significantly according to gender. This study also showed that preschool teachers’ scores on the “Teacher Supervision Form” significantly increased in direct proportion with their length of service. The study determined that the variable “location of the educational institution” causes a significant change in preschool teachers’ scores on the “Teacher Supervision Form”. We decided that location causes a significant difference on teachers’ scores on the“Teacher Supervision Form”. Finally, a new supervision form specific to preschool teachers with more objective and observable criteria should be developed.
