The Relationship between Preservice Teachers’ Work Values and Attitudes toward Teaching Profession
Abstract :
In this study, the relationship between work values of preservice teachers and their attitudes towards teaching profession was examined. 350 preservice teachers from the faculty of education at a state university in Ankara participated in the study. This study, which was designed with a single and relational survey model was conducted quantitatively. In the collection of the data, the Work Values Scale developed by Twenge, Campbell, Hoffman, and Lance (2010) and translated into Turkish by researchers, and the Attitude toward Teaching Profession Scale developed by Üstüner (2006) were utilized. In the analysis of the data descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson moment product correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis were used. According to the research findings, prospective teachers give more importance to internal rewards. The work values of the participants differ significantly by gender and class variables. There is a significant relationship between the work values of the preservice teachers and their attitudes towards the teaching profession. The work values of the preservice teachers are a significant predictor of their attitudes towards the teaching profession.
