Abstract :
Cyberloafing is a behavior of people who use their internet access at work or school for personal use during the work/school time. In other words, an employee’s access to internet for online shopping or a student’s use of their mobile device during a class to check his/her social media account is considered as cyberloafing. Main goal of the study is to examine higher education students’ behaviors during class time. To this end, data was collected from 228 elementary school teacher candidates. The data were consisted of demographic information of teacher candidates as well as their use of mobile technologies. According to the findings, most of the participants owned at least one mobile device more than at least one year; half of the participants deal with mobile learning. Also for educational purposes, they reported that they share files, search information, watch educational videos, and communicate with others often with their mobile devices. Also, they reported that visiting social media and news sites were the number one activities they do during classes. As a result, with the change in technology, computers, mobile phones, and internet become the must for lives. Thus, in order to increase the effectiveness of those technologies in classes, it is critical to identify how to use them effectively; why students use those technologies to get away from classes although they are physically in the classrooms; and the ways to decrease such behaviors.
