مرکز منطقه ای اطلاع رساني علوم و فناوري - Teachers’ and School Managers’ Opinions on Implementations Made in School Management to Provide School Security

Abstract :

The purpose of this study is to determine the school security applications based on the school manager’s opinions and to determine the opinions of school managers and teachers regarding the findings about school security applications. The model of this research is survey model in which both quantitative and qualitative research approaches are used. Within the scope of the research, the data collection tools created by the researchers and data were collected from 130 school principals through questionnaires and 24 school principals and 24 teachers through semi- structured interview forms. It was determined that the most common security system used is the cameras. It was determined that school managers use camera systems mostly for “watching for outsiders entering into school and watching their behaviors while inside the school” and “detecting conflicts arising in between students” and also in this research it is revealed that the cameras are also used for the following reasons; “to control if teachers are attending the classes on time”, “to control if teachers are coming or going to the school on time”, “to monitor the teacher on the shift”, “to monitor the teacher’s behaviors” and “to monitor the performance of the teachers in classes”. The school administration, teachers, students and parents should be informed about the purposes and forms of use of applications used to ensure school safety. In addition, school administrators should be at the forefront in making joint decisions between school administrators and teachers on school safety and acting together.
