THE EFFECT OF ARC PVD CERAMIC FILM COATINGS ON TO AZ91 MAGNESIUM ALLOY USED IN AUTOMOTIVE SECTOR ON ITS CORROSION STRENGTH
Abstract :
Today’s the automotive sector have extremely focused on using of magnesium (Mg) alloys which has low weight and easy to manufacture, to provide low fuel conception and gas emission. It has been reached that these alloys has low corrosion strength, and need to be improve its corrosion strength by additional coating processes in the literature surveys. With this aim, TiN, AlTiN and ZrN was coated by Arc PVD method using different coating parameters on AZ91 Mg material used in automotive sector, then, the effect of these coatings on its corrosion strength was experimentally determined. It is observed from test results, these coatings severely increased corrosion strength of AZ91 Mg materials and AlTiN coated AZ91 Mg alloys has the best corrosion strength, secondly TiN coated and finally ZrN coated, respectively
