Abstract :
This study was done between the years of 2006-2012 in all over Türkiye. In this article, all of Türkiye rose (Rosa L.) taxa are explained with their habitats, geographical and vertical distributions and phytogeographical regions in the country. Origines of Türkiye roses have been estimated as Asia, Caucasia and Türkiye by us. 45 taxa are new records for 158 geographical squares in Türkiye. For some wild taxa such as Rosa hirtissima, R. villosa, R. iberica, R. dumalis were determined interesting distributions. Most of new records belong to garden roses. R. canina, R. damascena, R. odorata species are most widely distributed taxa in Türkiye. In Gaziantep, Bursa, Antalya, Erzurum, Konya, Isparta provinces are being grown greatly old garden roses; on the other hand Kastamonu, Erzurum, Isparta, Ankara, Niğde, Amasya, Gümüşhane provinces are from the differentiation centers of natural rose. From eastern regions to westward in Türkiye; from habitats with high altitudes to low (sea level); from hot and dry habitats to humid ones, in terms of wild rose taxa and genetic diversity were established decrease. Accordingly; Asia is the main homeland of the genus; the native species should be spread to Europe via the bridge position countries such as Türkiye. Scented old garden roses were taken to the West via the Silk Road especially through Syria which was one from Damascus(Şam in Turkish) countries and thought that is a gene source for many new culture types. The modern varieties of roses which are developed as a result of breeding activities such as hybridization, mutation, gene transfer etc., recently, these have been sold commercially from Europe to some countries Türkiye etc. and are planted instead of the old garden roses. Although Europe has approximately 10000 rose varieties from 18000 all over the world rose varieties, wild rose diversity of Europe is weaker than Türkiye, , Asia and the Caucasus so that this situation is forced Europe for breeding and developing new types.
