PUBLIC ADMINISTIATION AS AN INTERDISCIPLINARY DISCIPLINE

The discipline of public administration has been described as an interdisciplinary field. Public administration has been applied the theories, methods and approaches of politics, administrative law and business management disciplines and this feature of the discipline has recently been considered as a cause of crisis in the field. In this study, positive and negative influences of interdisciplinary feature of public administration are discussed. Analyzing the relationships among the discipline to other disciplines since the establishment of the discipline is examined. It is also discussed the separation of the discipline from politics and administrative law, and getting closer to business management approach. We concluded that interdisciplinary approach provides some important contributions to public administration and this situation contributes to the solution of the problems rather than to be a source of the crisis. We have identified that public administration takes advantage of methods, approaches and solutions of other disciplines and tries to solve its problems. We assessed that the discipline benefits from other disciplines and increase its problem solving ability and capacity.
