THE EFFECTS OF EMOTIONAL LABOR ON ORGANIZATIONAL CITIZENSHIP BEHAVIOR: A STUDY IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR
Abstract :
In this study, the display of emotional labor of teachers who are important constituent of education system are examined on their Organizational Citizenship Behaviors (OCB). For this purpose, data are obtained and analyzed from 169 secondary school teachers working in Ankara. The relations and effects between variables are presented by correlation and regression analyses. The validity of scales are measured with structural equation model. According to the findings, it is seen that teachers’ emotional labors have significant effects on their OCB. Particularly, while teachers’ OCB who surface act are low, teachers’ OCB who can behave natural are high. As for deep acted teachers, their OCB are also low, but there is an upward trend in terms of surface acting. On the basis of sub-dimensions of emotional labors’ effects on organizational behaviors towards individuals (OCBI) and organizational behaviors towards organizations (OCBO) are also exerted. Furthermore depend on findings, some suggestions are made to the human resource executives of education institutions, school managers and principals for qualified and effective education.
