Abstract :
This study aims to analyze the approach of single-party system to the phenomenon of opposition in terms of the Free Republican Party (SCF), which was founded in 1930 and closed in the same year. SCF is not the only opposition party that was founded in the year 1930. However, none of the other parties were as effective as SCF, received mass support and thus obligated the political power. Therefore, in order to set forth the perception of opposition party of the single-party era in 1930s, it is required to examine the SCF movement. SCF is a political party, which was made to be founded by the political power itself and closed by again the political power, with a very short life. The scope of the study focused on the establishment of SCF, its opposition and closing after 99-days of political activities. In the study, which seems as a brief history of SCF at the first glance, traces to put forth the perception of opposition for the single-party rule within the aforesaid historical development. One of the main findings of the study is that the political power made SCF to be founded over an opposition party profile, the frames of which were determined by the political power itself. According to this profile, the expectation of a single party rule from an opposition party is that it should help CHF in eliminating the problems arising from the operation of the system, through a moderate and controlled opposition. SCF, from the moment it was established in the middle of reactions to the single-party rule, advanced towards the position of an opposition party in the real sense by taking the attention of masses and started to digress the aforesaid profile. The second finding of the study is oriented to the way of perceiving the political party, which stepped out of the perception profile of an opposition-party by the political power. SCF was closed as a result of another development, which the political power did not expect. The study was analyzed through literature reviews by using the memoirs and resources regarding the era.
