AN ANALYSIS ON THE RELATION BETWEEN THE COUNTRIES’ GLOBALIZATION, DEMOCRACY, AND ECONOMIC SIZE INDICATORS AND GENDER DEVELOPMENT INDEX
Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to understand the relation between the countries’ place on the Gender Development Index and their globalization, democracy, and economic size indicators. To understand this relation, Gender Development Index prepared by the United Nations Development Program, Democracy Index prepared by the Economist Journal “Intelligence Unit”, Index of Globalization prepared by KOF Swiss Economic Research Institute, and countries’ Gross Domestic Product indicators are examined. The basic result obtained after the analyses done is that there is a reverse relation between the countries’ democracy and globalization levels and their place on Gender Development Index and that the countries’ Gross Domestic Product levels have no statistically significant effect on their place on the Gender Development Index. The basic conclusion we have here is that the country’s rank in the Gender-Based Development Index decreases; in other words, improves when the levels of democracy and globalization of that country increases. Therefore, inequality between men and women decreases when the country’s globalization and democratization level increases.
