Goal Programming and MOORA Method for Supplier Selection Problem: Implementation Study
Abstract :
Supplier selection is an important problem that requires realistic and effective solutions to minimize the procurement cost. Companies must work with more than one supplier to ensure that their activities are not interrupted. At the same time, the traditional approach, which only takes into account the price criterion, has left its place to the use of multi-criteria decision-making methods in which more than one criterion is taken into account. Many internal and external factors affect the supplier selection problem. Decision makers in companies deal with this problem with many variables, considering one or more different and conflicting objectives and selection criteria. Thus, they use some appropriate solution methods for searching for the right supplier. In this paper, it is aimed to provide a solution to a real life supplier selection problem in a company. Goal programming approach and MOORA, which is a multi-criteria decision making technique are used to determine the right supplier and the obtained solutions by proposed methods are compared. In the result of comparison, it was seen that different suppliers were selected by MOORA method while choosing the same supplier as goal programming approach.
