The interaction between credits and real economy has mostly been dealt with in the context of financial development-economic growth. Financial development-economic growth relationship has generally been explained by the models including development discrepancies of financial markets, supply-demand side approaches and credit restriction. Empirical researches investigating causality relationships between two variables show no consensus about the direction of the causality. In this study, causality relationships between domestic credit and economic growth have been investigated in Turkey. Granger Causality and Error Correction Model have been used in this analysis including for the period 1998-2008 quarterly time series data. The findings of the study show that there is a bi-directional causality relationship from economic growth to credits.
