Abstract :
The extent of the contributions that organizations make to sustainable development has gained importance recently because of the global environmental crisis. Since organizations perform enormously numerous activities on a large scale, the importance of the topic has increased for the organizations. In this respect, to measure or compare the contributions to the sustainable development made by organizations is essential. In order to make measurement or comparisons, mathematical based techniques can be employed. Although the fields of “social responsibility” and “operational research” do not seem to communicate each other, this has changed so far. This study is an inter-discipliner study explaining both the importance of the topic from “social responsibility perspective” and the operational research techniques developed for environmental performance measurement.
