Abstract :
Objectives of this paper are to determine the factors which could affect poverty status and living standard of household and to illustrate the probabilities of poverty on household bases in Turkey. In the paper, significant factors which determine the living standard according to the household consumption expenditure between the years 2002 and 2006 are discussed and depending on these factors, dimension of poverty is tried to be displayed. In the paper, pooled data set including a five year period using The Household Budget Surveys of the years 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 is used. Results illustrate that as the education level increases the probability of poverty decreases, and as the household size increases the risk of poverty also increases. Living standard of rural household are lower than urban household while the former’s poverty is more than the latter’s. In the paper it is also found that among the years appearing in the paper, 2002 is the one in which poverty was most common while 2006 is the one in which less poverty was experienced.
