Abstract :
Especially after 1970 the effect of information and communication technology has gradually increased. In consequence of extensive usage of the new financial instruments, the tendency of consumption expenditures increases. This study investigates the causality relationship between financial innovation and consumption expenditures in Turkey for the period 1998:1-2008:4. For this purpose, Granger Causality test is used. The evidence present that credit cards have causal impact on the education and other consumption expenditures and swiping machine has causal impact on the housing and other consumption expenditures. The other consumption expenditures group includes furnishing household equipment, transport and communication, recreation and culture, restaurants and hotels expenditures. These findings exhibit that consumers prefer to use credit card for expenditures with higher amounts
