Abstract :
In developing countries such as Turkey, production advantages through import have positive impact on economic growth performance and can cause import-led growth. Acording to this theoretical framework, the aim of this study is to test the import-led growth hypotesis for 1989-2007 period in Turkey. In this work uses quarterly data, relations between import, imports of intermediate goods, import of capital goods and real GDP are analyzed with cointegration analysis and vector correction model. Analysis results indicate that there is causality runs from import and imports of intermediate goods to growth. Moreover, there is bidirectional causality between imports of capital goods and growth. The overall result of the study is asset of import-led growth in examined period.
