Abstract :
The operating effectively of banking sector which have an important share in financial system is crucial for the healthy economic development of a country. For this reason, to know the efficiency of Turkish banking sector which participation and commercial banks are operating in competitive environment is important. In this paper, it is comparatively analyzed that the efficiency of participation and commercial banks in 2005-2010 period in Turkey. In this context, the efficiency of 30 banks which 4 of 30 is participation bank was measured. Input-focused Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was used for measuring of efficiency under the constant returns to scale (CCR) and output variable returns to scale (BCC) assumptions. According to the findings, 11 banks which 2 of 11 is participation bank in CCR and 16 banks which 3 of 16 is participation bank in BCC are efficient. Moreover, it is concluded that according to the total efficiency scores participation banks are more efficient than commercial banks in the period.
