Abstract :
Energy demand has increased significantly in parallel with rapidly increasing industrial output in the world as of industrial revolution in the world. Increasing energy demand has been provided substantially by primary energy sources. This study examines the relationship between economic growth and use of primary energy in Turkey during the period 1961-2012 by using co-integration test based on Autoregressive Distributed Lag bound test approach and Todo-Yamamoto causality test. We found that there was long run relationship between economic growth and primary energy use and primary energy use had negative impact on economic growth in the long run, while it had positive impact in the short run. Moreover causality test results demonstrated that there were bidirectional causality between economic growth and primary energy use.
