EFFECTIVENESS OF THE TOUCH MATH TECHNIQUE IN TEACHING ADDITION SKILLS TO STUDENTS WITH MENTAL RETARDATION
Abstract :
The learning style of students differs from each other. While developing educational programs this must be taken into consideration. Touch Math is one of the technique that is developed for students who have disabilities and non-disabilities. This technique consists of placing points on number from 1 to 9. The main purpose of this research was to determine the effectiveness, generalizability and the maintenance of Touch Math on adding skills to the children with mental retardation. The subjects of this study consisted of 1 girl and 2 boys. The girl was 9 years old and the boys were 4 and 20 years old. In this study Touch Math and adding skills were thought with direct instruction. The independent variable of the study was teaching adding skills by using Touch Math in direct instruction and dependent variable was the performance level of the subjects in adding skills. Multiple probe design that was one of the single subject designs was used as a research design. According to the results using Touch Math in direct instruction on teaching adding skills to the mentally retarded children was effective.
