The status of renewable energy resources in the Turkish social studies textbooks and prospective teachers’ perceptions
Abstract :
To prevent climate change, countries pay attention to the necessity of teaching renewable energy resources. In this context, they use some courses like science and social studies to raise awareness of renewable energy resources. Purpose of this study is to elicit the status of renewable energy resources in Turkish social studies textbooks and prospective social studies teachers’ perceptions. The study was designed with qualitative methodology, specifically case study. To collect the data, social studies (4-7) textbooks and interviews with 10 prospective social studies teachers were employed. The collected data were analyzed with content analysis. The results of the study showed that teaching of renewable energy resources was limited in the textbooks. Besides, it was found that prospective social studies teachers didn’t have enough information about renewable energy resources
