Abstract :
Psychological resilience and self-construal are distinct psychological concepts and there are several research on them independently. In this study, it was aimed to research the relationship between psychological resilience and self-construal in adolescents. Furthermore, whether self-construal and psychological resilience differentiate depending on factors such as sex, levels of parents education were studied. The population of the research consists of 14-18 year old adolescents who study in different high schools in the Anatolian side of Istanbul during the 2012-2013 academic years. In line with the target of the study “Personnel Information Form”, “Adolescent Psychological Resilience Scale (APRS)” and “Autonomous-Related Self in Family Scale (ARSF)” were used to collect data. The data were analysed according to the relational screening model. Within the sample, nonparametric techniques were used for groups which showed abnormal distribution, and parametric analysis techniques were used for groups displaying normal distribution. According to study, there was a negative correlation between psychological resilience and autonomy; however, there was a positive relationship between relatedness and autonomy relatedness with psychological resilience. Moreover, the results have shown that the girls’ psychological resilience scores were higher than the boys; the boys were more independent; the girls were more dependent and autonomousrelated. The findings also have shown that there was a significantly negative relationship between Autonomy and APRS-family support sub-scale
