An investigation of the readiness of teachers for change based upon various variables
Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to investigate the readiness of teachers for change based upon various variables. The participants of the study consist of 348 teachers who work at State schools that are located on the Anatolian part of Istanbul. Random sampling has been used to select the participants. The study utilizes “The Readiness for Change Scale” which has been developed by Kondakçı, Zayim and Çalışkan (2013) and “Demographic Information Sheet”. The analysis of the data shows that in terms of the readiness of teachers for change, there is not a statistically significant difference based upon gender, marital status most recent educational institution, postgraduate training and in-service training received. Teachers’ readiness for change differ according to the variables, age and seniority. The findings indicate that the novice and young teachers score higher on the readines for change scale. Accordingly, the older teacher, in order to increase the level to be readines for change these teachers were included in the process of change can be achieved by undertaking new roles and responsibilities. Thus, these teachers thwarts the creation of resistance to change as benefiting from general life and professional experience
