Abstract :
The purpose of this research is to determine general trends in the field by examining thepostgraduate theses and dissertations written in the field of educational economics in Turkey. Descriptive survey method and content analysis techniques were used in the study. 80 masterstheses and doctorate dissertations written over the last 25 years in the field of educational economicsin Turkey have formed the universe of this research. All of these theses and dissertations havebeen reached within the scope of the research. It is observed in the study that theses in educationeconomics are more popular at master’s level, they are written intensely in Turkish, mostlyproduced in 2014 and 2015. It has been observed that the quantitative methods and especiallythe survey and document analysis models are used more frequently in the theses. Most of thetheses prepared for the Institute of Social Sciences rather than Institute of Educational Sciences. When the genders of the thesis writers and the thesis advisors are examined, it is seen that themen are more interested in the fields both doctorate and master levels. In terms of academicrankings, professors appear to give more weight to the field. When we look at the distributionof the issues of theses, “financial resources, education and costs, education and development, education and employment situations” come to the forefront. In general, theses in the field ofeducational economics appear to be inadequate both in terms of quality and quantity. There is aneed for work that is unique in terms of subject and method, and that produces solutions to theeducational problems in Turkey.
