  • Abstract
This research aims to conduct the Turkish adaptation studies of Social Achievement Goal Scale (SAGS; Horst, Finney, ve Barron, 2007) which was revised from the Social Achievement Goal Orientation Scale (SAGOS; Ryan ve Hopkins, 2003). The Turkish version of the scale was applied on 282 university students studying at state university during during the 2016-2017 academic year. In the scale adaptation study, English and Turkish translation comparisons were made with six academicians having advanced English proficiency from Educational Sciences and Foreign Language Departments for language validity. Subsequently, English and Turkish scales were applied to the English literate group of students and the Turkish translation of the scale was completed by correlation analysis between the items. After the analysis of the language validity of the scale, the validity and reliability analyses were performed. In order to determine the construct validity of the scale, Explicatory Factor Analysis (EFA) was performed first. The sample size and factor analysis of the study were found to be appropriate with KMO .726 and the Barlett test x2 = 1272,522 (p .001). When the construct validity of the scale was examined, a three-dimensional structure which accounts for 54,32 % of the total variance was obtained. In this study, item-factor structure was determined in EFA analysis and then model fit test was performed with Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Three-dimensional structure of the Social Achievement Goal Scale was confirmed. In this study, the Cronbach alpha value of the scale and the internal consistency of each dimension were examined for reliability analysis of the scale. The total internal consistency coefficient of the scale was .68, the internal consistency coefficient for the Mastery subscale was .712, the internal consistency coefficient for the Performance-approach was .627, and the internal consistency coefficient for the Performance-avoidance was .497. The EFA and CFA analyzes showed that the Turkish adaptation of the Social Achievement Goal Scale was reliable and valid.
