Evaluation of Phases of Matter and Heat Instructional Design: Student and Teacher Opinions
Abstract :
In this study, an instructional design developed for 8th grade primary school students was evaluated in terms of interviews with students and teachers. The aim of instructional design is to provide effective teaching of the concepts of ‘Phases of Matter and Heat’ unit. The study consists of three basic stages. At the first stage, visual impairment students’ learning needs related concepts of this unit were identified. In the second stage materials and activities are designed. The later instructional design was implemented at the visual impaired school. Implementation lasted for 4 weeks. In the implementation phase, the sample group consists of 6 students. At the last stage, this instructional design was evaluated in the direction of interviews made by teachers and students. This study was conducted through Design Based Research which is a type of research methodology commonly used by researchers in the learning sciences. ADDIE instructional design model was utilized for developing instructional design. The ADDIE model is at the very core of instructional design and is the basis of instructional systems design. The Case Study was applied at the first and third stage of the ADDIE model. Data were collected through interviews. As a result of data analysis, according to the findings obtained from the study, the instruction design contributed positively to the learning of the students. It has also been determined that the design motivates the teacher to be activity- based.
