Title Of Article :
THE NURSE’S ROLE IN CAPSULE ENDOSCOPY
Abstract :
Capsule endoscopy is a noninvasive, safe and easily applicable imaging method which is especially developed to visualize the small intestine area of the gastrointestinal system. Researches have showed that capsul endoscopy is a successful method in evaluation the cause of obscure and visible gastrointestinal bleeding that the conventional methods can not be detected and in the diagnosis of Crohn s disease and other inflammatory bowel disease. The capsule endoscopy images reguire approximately two hours to interpret. It is suggested that when the pre-assessment of the images is performed by nurses instead of gastroenterologists, the diagnosis process will be accelerated. Literature information puts forward that experienced endoscopy nurses put in an outstanding performance in capsule endoscopy procedure, and successfully performing the pre-assessment they shorten the diagnosis process. This review was planned with the aim of investigating in the light of the literature the roles expected from endoscopy nurses in the capsule endoscopy procedure, a new visual diagnosis method.
