Abstract :
Objective: This research was carried out as descriptive with the aim of determining the relevance between perceived social support with hopelessness and death anxiety levels of patients with heart failure. Methods: Research sample included 39 patients with heart failure hospitalized in cardiology clinic of a state hospital during 1 October 2009-31 January 2010. Research data were collected by using Questionnaire Form, Beck Hopelessness Scale, Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale and Death Anxiety Scale. Obtained data were evaluated by using descriptive staticticals and correlation analysis. Results: As perceived social support levels of patients with heart failure were high (64.25 ± 11.35), their hopelessness (10.33 ± 4.91) and death anxiety (8.82 ± 2.90) levels were moderate. Also, while being high of patients’ perceived social support levels prevented to have hopelessness (r=- 0.496, p 0.05), it didn’t effect on their death anxiety levels (r=-0.168, p 0.05). Conclusion: Perceived social support levels of patients with heart failure were high. However, their hopelessness and death anxiety levels had risk in terms of having mental health problems. This, planning and implementing of programmes to prevent patient having hopelessness and death anxiety were suggested.
