Abstract :
Internalized stigma is the devaluation, shame, secrecy and withdrawal triggered by applying negative streotypes to oneself. Like other members of society, individuals with mental illness naturally come into contact with cmmon stereotypes. Once these individuals are labeled by themselves or by others as being mentally ill the willingly or unwillingly assume membership in the group that is the object of the stereotypes. Stigma is a serious problem that perceived by 54.6% of Bipolar disorder patients. Educated and sophisticated population would understand that psychiatric illnesses are often treatable. If the public accepted the fact that these illnesses are often successfully treated, those affected with illness would not ashamed of it and would be more likely to seek out appropriate Professionals with the expectation of symtom relief. Stigma is a significant barrier to treatment of mental health problems. Experience of stigmatization can lead individuals to delay, avoid or disengage from mental health treatment. For individuals in treatment stigma focused psychoeducation can decrease perceived stigmatization. This review has been writen aim of clarifying to use of internalized stigma reducing approaches by bring together them in a psychoeducation programe that particular to bipolar disorder.
