THE STUDY ON THE VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY OF PREPAREDNESS FOR CAREGIVING SCALE IN FAMILY CAREGIVERS OF STROKE PATIENTS

Objective: The aim of this study was to examine validity and reliability of Turkish form of “Preparedness for Caregiving Scale”. Material and Methods: Sampling group of the study included 100 relatives of the patients of stroke who came to the Neurology Clinic for Adults in Ege University Hospital to be treated from 01.08.2073 to 30.01.2014. In the research, Information Form of Family Members, Ege University Hospital Level of Dependency of Patients Form and Preparedness for Caregiving Scale was used.Results: Forward and backward translation procedure and pretest was made for translation equivalency and linguistic adaptation. Test-retest reliability coefficient 0.74, the item-total correlation coefficients of the scale ranged from 0.63-0.84, total scale Cronbach Alpha coefficient0.92 were calculated. The scale was examined by 10 experts to verify its content validity. According to expert s suggestion modifications was made. Content validity index was calculated with Davis technic between 0.90-1.00. Evaluate the discriminant validity of the scale, p=0.012 was found between the independent patients and medium level dependent patients.Conclusion: As a result it has found that Preparedness forCaregiving Scale was a sufficiently valid and reliable instrument in Turkey.
