INVESTIGATION OF ERGONOMIC CONDITIONS IN COMPUTERIZED WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND MUSCULOSKELETAL DISCOMFORTS OF ACADEMICIAN NURSES
Abstract :
Aim: This study aims to specify the effect of ergonomic conditions in work environment of nurse academicians and other risk factors considered to be effective to musculoskeletal discomforts.Methods: The universe of the descriptive study consists of 161 nurse academicians in Nursing Faculties and in the Nursing Department of Health Sciences Faculty in izmir during the 20 12 2013 academic period. All nurse academicians being reached have been included in the study without making any kind of sampling. In the study, Individual Identification Form, US OSHA Ergonomic Evaluation Checklist and Cornell Musculoskeletal Discomfort Questionnaire have been used as data collection tools.Results: The mean age of the individuals were 36.22±9.82. The body parts of the individuals who have most pain complaints were neck, upper back, lower back and shoulders. The upper back, knee, shoulder and lower back areas were determined to be most affective to work interference. There has been no statistically significant difference between ages of individuals, Body Mass Index, daily computer use, occupational computer use experience and the mean scores that individuals have taken in Cornell Musculoskeletal Discomfort Questionnaire (p 0.05).Conclusion: As a result of the study, it has been determined that nurse academicians experience musculoskeletal discomforts in high density, and however, individuals who have ergonomic working environment or pay attention to these conditions experience musculoskeletal discomforts less.
