Abstract :
Objective: Research was planned as a quasi experimental study with a single group on whichpre-test and post-test would be applied in order to determine the effects of standard nursing care on the development of orthostatic hypotension in the elderly people living in nursing homes. Methods: The sample of the research was composed of 30 elderly individuals who had orthostatic hypotension. Before standard nursing care, the individuals with orthostatic hypotension were defined by measuring the blood pressure and pulse rate of all elderly people staying in nursing home in first evaluation. Blood pressure and pulse rate measurements were evaluated again on the tenth day before standard nursing care and on the second, fifth and tenth days of standard nursing care process. Results: Difference between the systolic and diastolic blood pressure and heart rate measurements of the first assessment before the standard nursing care and of the second, fifth andtenth days of the standard nursing care process was found statistically significant. Conclusion: As a conclusion, standard nursing care plays an important role in preventing the orthostatic hypotension among elderly people living in nursing homes.
