Abstract :
Objective: The aim of this descriptive study is to identify the living conditions and some health features of the Iraqi asylum-seekers in Siirt.Methods: This study was conducted on 7 100 individuals living in camps. However there was no information about how many of them were adults or children.. Thus, sample selection was not applied and 298 people who accepted to participate in this study have been interviewed from January 1st to March 31th. 2015. The data have been collected with the help of the questionnaire form prepared by means of the literature by the researchers. The data have been collected by two fourth-grade Health College students who can speak Kurdish and Arabi c. Ethical commitee permission and verbal approval of the individuals are obtained fort he research. The data have been evaluated in computer environment using digit,proportion and mean tests.Results and Conclusion: All of the individuals have stated that they do not have a source of income and live on municipal aid or public support. All the houses are reinforced concrete houses and 98.3% of them have a sewer system. It has been reported that 83.6% of them use wood-coal burning stone to heat up, 74.8% of them use mains water,21.8% of them use natural water. 50.7% of all the asylum-seekers have at least one chronic disease. It has been reported that they consult mostly family healthcare centers as a healthcare organization (75.2%) and have difficulties in healthcare access due to their financial and communicational problems. 17.4% of the individuals stated that the children in their familya re fully vaccinated. It was determined that the living conditions of the asylum-seekers in the camping region were relatively favorable however chronic diseases were common, most of the children had missing vaccines and they had difficulties in accessing to the health services. It is suggested that health and social services for refugees should be planned col/aboratively by local authorities, universities and the other related institutions.
